With the surging global population, countries all over the world are looking for long-term, sustainable solutions for increasing food production. Some have turned to sustainable agriculture in order to provide sufficient food sources without over-exploiting ecosystems.
“Sustainable Agriculture” is one of the four modules of the “Certificate in Sustainable Communities” programme. This course focuses on introducing the basic concept and understanding of sustainable agriculture which includes a range of knowledge and practices for pursuing economically viable, environmentally sound and socially responsible agriculture. Applications of these practices will be illustrated through local case studies and farm visits. Students will further build up their basic skills through a farming practicum.

The Academy for Sustainable Communities is housed under the Centre for Civil Society and Governance at HKU with a vision to become a regional knowledge exchange platform to disseminate knowledge of sustainability and incubate a new generation of change agents for sustainability.
