Graduate Environmental Training Scheme (GETS)
Welcome to the Graduate Environmental Training Scheme (GETS), an initiative by the Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental Professionals (HKIQEP) aimed at nurturing the future leaders in the environmental industry.
Building on the success of the pilot phase launched in late 2023 and the expanded programme in recent years, GETS now welcomes an annual intake of 20 trainees starting from 2026. This flagship initiative continues to bridge recent environmental graduates with industry professionals through a structured 3+1 year pathway, including a 3-year intensive Training Period followed by 1 year of professional management experience, leading toward Qualified Environmental Professional status.

Recruitment for Supervisors, Tutors and Mentors
Our program expects supervisors, tutors and mentors to have at least 5 years of experience in specific environmental fields such as Air, Ecology, Biodiversity, EIA, ESMP, Noise, Waste, and Water. Supervisors and mentors need to be Fellows or Professionals members of HKIQEP.
Supervisors, recruited publicly, guide and support graduate members over 3 years, sharing experiences, imparting knowledge, and endorsing training outcomes. They conduct quarterly one-to-one meetings and hold a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
Tutors, selected from graduate members’ direct managers, adapt to dynamic roles, engaging in monthly meetings to assess progress, offering feedback, and ensuring rigorous training objectives. Prospective tutors need 5 years of environmental experience.
A Mentor in the GETS is a dedicated individual supporting candidate when in-house supervision is unavailable, ensuring continuous progress and guidance in their environmental training.
Application are accepted throughout the year, all are welcome to sign up the expression of interest(EOI) via: https://alt.jotfor.ms/HKIQEP/expression-of-interest-GETS
In the pilot scheme, supervisors and tutors will be nominate directly by the company if you fulfilled our selection criteria. For mentors, you will be invited when the organizations request for an external supervisor. Priorities will be given to the registered organizations that joined the pilot scheme.
Selection Criteria for Graduate Members
To be eligible for the GETS program, candidates must hold an environmental-related degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) and have graduated within the past three years. While the scheme is open to all qualified graduates to ensure fresh academic perspectives, those from HKIQEP-accredited programs and pledging companies will receive additional priority during the selection process.
Expectations for Graduate Members
Graduate members are expected to actively participate in the program by completing a logbook that documents their experiences and outcomes gained through on-the-job training. Additionally, they are encouraged to proactively seek mentors and tutors and closely align with the training outcomes defined by GETS.
